How you can help

Thank you for considering a donation to the African Network for the Prevention and Protection against Child Abuse and Neglect.

Here at ANPPCAN, our aim is to empower people and children to achieve their full human potential.  We invest in people.  We invest in training.  Through community partnership and training we enable individuals, families and communities to live better lives on their own resources without the need of future aid.

A regular donation, however small, will help tap into the potential of Africa's greatest and most precious resource.  It's children.

There are several ways to help.  Please find out which option works best for you.

DONATE BY CHEQUE

One of the most effective ways to assist ANPPCAN is to donate directly by cheque.  If there is a particular area you would like to see your donation go towards, please attach a small note along with the cheque.  If you have any questions at all, please email us or give us a call at +254 020 3873990.

HELP MEET A SPECIFIC NEED

There are always specific needs that come to attention as a result of the work that we do.  Please read the stories below and help transform the life of a child!

CHILD LABOUR PROGRAMME IN KENYA

ANPPCAN Child Labour Programme works with rural communities in Kenya known to produce child workers in prostitution, trafficking of drugs, commercial agriculture and domestic workers. Many children living and working in the streets of urban centres in Kenya also emanate from these rural communities.

The programme is currently targeting nine districts in Kenya, namely, Kiambu, Makuyu-Maragwa, Muranga, Suba, Homa Bay, Bondo, Siaya, Busia and Teso. The programme aims at involving the communities in prevention of child labour.

A donation of a used 4WD vehicle or second hand computers to be used towards this goal will be highly appreciated. The 4WD vehicle will facilitate the programme to access the remote rural areas while the second hand computers will enable the child labour committees to prepare good reports of their work, access information from the Internet, link the committees in the different districts and process information.

For donations towards the Child Labour Programme, please email us directly.

HELP A GIRL STAY IN SCHOOL

African Network for the Prevention and Protection against Child Abuse and Neglect (ANPPCAN) with support from HOPE-HIV has been implementing a programme on Child Participation in two districts in Kenya,  namely,  Busia and Loitoktok since 2008. The goal of the project is to prevent and respond to all forms of child abuse and exploitation by empowering young persons as advocates for protection of rights of orphans and other vulnerable children in Busia and Loitokitok districts. To implement the programme, ANPPCAN works with children through child rights clubs in schools, teachers, District Child Labour Committee and Child Participation Committees at the district level. Currently, 20 schools are taking part in the programme in the two districts.

Sanitary pads

In the course of educating children on their rights, combating child abuse and promoting child participation, some pertinent issues have emerged. Young girls, for instance, have come out strongly and raised the need for sanitary pads. The schools’ administration notes that once these girls have periods, they don’t report to school. They are forced to stay away from schools for upto two weeks during the cycle. Others use unhealthy ways to circumvent the issue. In the months of March and April, 2011, the programme intends to work with partners and well wishers to provide sanitary pads to some 900 school –going girls to enable them remain in school in all the school calendar days.

We are therefore appealing to well wishers to participate in this worthy cause to raise 0.5 million sanitary pads for the 20 schools for the next 2 years. Let’s give these girls an opportunity to stay at school to gain the capacity and potential to excel to the highest level possible. With the pads provided, their right to health and access to education is guaranteed.
