The media serves as an indispensable ally in advancing child rights and strengthening child protection systems locally, sub national, national and globally.
By leveraging on the massive reach, the media shapes public opinion, influences legislative policy and holds institutions accountable to the standards outlined at national laws, and regional and international frameworks.
This week ANPPCAN took part in the inaugural Technical Working Committee meeting on Child Rights and Protection Media Awards 2026 in Kenya. The meeting was held at the Swiss Lenana Mount Hotel, Nairobi and was hosted by The Children Rights Advocacy and Legal Aid Foundation (CRALAF) and the State Department for Children Services. Representatives from Watoto Watch Foundation, ANPPCAN, ICS-SP, TDH Germany and World Vision attended the meeting.
The Child Rights and Protection Media Awards 2026 will be held on 20 November 2026 in Nairobi, at a time when the world will be celebrating the World Children’s Day.

The inaugural TWC meeting, among other things, deliberated and reviewed the frameworks for the categories and criteria for the Child Rights and Protection Media Awards 2026.
The mainstream and digital media continue to speak out and amplify children’s issues, hence the need to recognize and motivate journalists in their story telling, ensuring societies are responsive to the needs of children and uphold the best interest of children.
